Gael Garcia Bernal

Is one of the most grounded people I've seen interviewed. In talking about Motorcycle Diaries:

He told a Toronto journalist that Che was an icon, and so he is almost flat, he has no detail, and so he can be any person. (every person).

This movie was about Che before he knew he was Che, before the world knew he was Che.

He speaks with Charlie Rose about discipline, about playing. Charlie says you didn't take it seriously. Gael says, "I did take it seriously, but it was a game."

He talks about how acting is hard because it is a risk. You give yourself over to it, and you don't know if it's going to be a good trip or a bad trip, but you know you will be changed because of it." (Isn't this life?)

He said you bring your whole life to it, and you will be changed.

He is in a movie where the director says he is an outsider looking for belonging. Without pause, Gael interjects, but that can only come from inside. Isn't it? The question is one for social ettiquete, he's checking he didn't overstep, though he is right, and fast. I'm in awe for this deep of knowledge to be so easily, confidently articulated.
